What’s on locally
St Columbanus: To celebrate the 1500th Anniversary of the death of St Columbanus a Year of Columbanus is being opened in Rome on 12 October 2014 with a Mass in St John Lateran, the Cathedral Church of Rome. There will also be a concert given by ”˜The Priests’ and an International Meeting of countries and parishes evangelised by St Columbanus. A Pilgrimage, led by Bishop Treanor, will depart from Dublin on 8th October and return on 15th. Accommodation will be in 3 star hotels in Rome and the cost per person sharing is 995euro. NI Healthcare Chaplains’ Association (NIHCA) Hospital visitor’s course will run for 10 weeks beginning Thurs 18th September from 7.30-9.30pm at Edgehill College, Belfast. The course is aimed at lay people who are interested in hospital visitation, either within the local church context, or who already visit hospitals as part of their church responsibilities. Baptism Team Training For Parish Groups: Volunteers should be welcoming, Sociable and non-judgemental people, able to speak clearly and willing to engage with parents. The time commitment for this training includes two weeknights and two Saturday sessions beginning with the introductory evening on Wednesday 15th October. Unique volunteering opportunities for Retired Teachers to provide 1:1 support to children with additional educational needs, in primary schools in West and North Belfast. A Service of Hope, Healing and Love in the week of World Suicide Prevention Day. Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Newcastle, County Down. Sunday 14th September 2014 at 3pm. This Service is for those concerned about suicide, those who may be in crisis and those who have been bereaved or affected by suicide. People of all faiths are welcome. Please join us in the Parish Centre afterwards for light refreshments. If anyone wishes to speak confidentially to someone who is experienced in supporting others, this will also be available.
