{"id":6014,"date":"2025-06-20T08:42:32","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T08:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stagnesbelfast.com\/?p=6014"},"modified":"2025-06-20T08:42:32","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T08:42:32","slug":"st-agnes-parish-bulletin-21st-june-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stagnesbelfast.com\/?p=6014","title":{"rendered":"ST AGNES PARISH BULLETIN 21ST JUNE 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Gaza: \u201cWords are not enough!\u201d \u2013 Irish Bishops call for solidarity at parish level\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishops stated the following concerning the humanitarian disaster in Gaza:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIn Gaza people are starving and adequate aid is being denied; it seems clear that famine is being used as a weapon of war. \u202fAlready over 600,000 Palestinians have been displaced. \u202fThe evidence points to a staged strategy of ethnic cleansing aimed at removing the Palestinian people from their homes and their homeland.\u202f It is becoming increasingly clear to people on the ground that these are genocidal actions sanctioned by the Government of Israel.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWhat is happening in Gaza \u2013 and the West Bank \u2013 is the death of tens of thousands of non-combatants, many of them women and children. \u202fThis is unconscionable and disproportionate. \u202fIt is immoral for world leaders to stand by inactively in the face of this outrageous tragedy for humanity.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWords are not enough! \u202fThere is an urgent need for the international community to intervene, cut off arms supplies and bring the carnage to an end.\u202f This will call for courage on the part of leaders.\u202f Examples of courage are being given every day by heroic doctors, nurses and aid workers risking their lives in service of the wounded and those who have been displaced.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As noted already, bishops offered prayers for the people of Gaza and Ukraine as well as other troubled places in the world. \u202fIn relation to the deteriorating situation in Gaza they noted that as of early June 2025, the humanitarian crisis there has intensified dramatically. \u202fTo date, almost 55,000 people have been killed in Gaza and the West Bank, since the horrific events of 7 October 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishops welcomed the response to their call in their statement of 26 May for a \u2018Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace\u2019 in Gaza on Friday last, 6 June. \u202fThe entire month of June, the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, should be a time of special prayer for peace.\u202f All parishes are asked \u202fto give expression to their solidarity with the suffering people of Gaza during June.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishops continued, \u201cPeople in parishes across the country are horrified by what they are witnessing.\u202f They may feel helpless. \u202fBut they can show their solidarity in different ways by lobbying their political representatives, by supporting humanitarian aid and, above all, by continuing to pray for an end to the conflict now and the resumption of peace, including the return of all hostages and prisoners.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishops listened again to the recent words of Pope Leo XIV and resonated with them: \u201cIn the Gaza Strip, the cry of mothers, of fathers who clutch the lifeless bodies of children and who are continually forced to move in search of a little food and safer shelter from bombing, rises ever more intensely to the sky.\u202f I renew my appeal to the leaders: cease-fire, release all hostages, fully respect humanitarian law. \u202fMary Queen of Peace, pray for us.\u2019 (General Audience, 28 May 2025).\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">PARISH NEWS&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">WEEKLY OFFERTORY PROMISE<\/span> <\/b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The collection amounted to \u00a31496.00.
