As it is written in<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I am sending<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>my messenger ahead of you; he will<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>prepare your way.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A voice of one crying out in the desert:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cPrepare the way of the Lord, make<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>straight his paths.\u201d John the Baptist<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>appeared in the desert proclaiming a<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>baptism of repentance for the forgiveness<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>of sins. People of the whole Judean<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>countryside and all the inhabitants of<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Jerusalem were going out to him and<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>were being baptised by him in the Jordan<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>River as they acknowledged their sins.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>John was clothed in camel\u2019s hair, with a<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>leather belt around his waist. He fed on<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>locusts and wild honey. And this is what<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>he proclaimed: \u201cOne mightier than I is<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>and loosen the thongs of his sandals.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>I have baptised you with water; he will<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>baptise you with the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">John the Baptist was an outrageous person. Not many of us would share his taste in clothes or food! However, he stands out most for his words, bravery and challenge. He calls us to look at our lives, our actions and to discover and confess our sins. He asks us to do this because it is the way to real, deep, Christian joy. Take time to think about the things that you are sorry for. Think of one aspect of your life that you need to change that might bring you closer to God. In the quiet of your own heart, pray an act of sorrow and ask that the Holy Spirit, given to each of us in Baptism, will strengthen and guide you on your path to Jesus. \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>Act of Sorrow<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">O my God, I thank you for loving me.
