PARISH NEWS<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PATHWAYS TO THE FUTURE<\/mark> As a Church we are called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and share his love in the world. But we realise that our current way of doing things is getting more difficult to sustain. With smaller congregations and fewer priests we have to find new ways to ensure that the mission of the Church can be carried out in the future. For this reason our Diocese of Down and Connor is undertaking a major programme of change called Pathways to the Future. It will look at the priorities and structures of the Church to see how we can best serve our 86 parishes and other ministries over the next twenty years. A steering team of lay people and clergy has been preparing for this work in recent months and representatives of every parish have taken part in initial conversations. In the coming months we all have a chance to find out more and play our part. One important task is to collect accurate information and for that reason a census of Mass attendance across the diocese will be taken up next week. This is a time of rebuilding and renewal for our diocese and we set off on the pathway confident that the Holy Spirit, sent to us by the Father, will guide us on our journey together. Please keep this project in your prayers!<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For our diocese, may we be a sign and instrument in the world of the presence of Christ. May we be guided by the Holy Spirit as we make plans for the future.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

God of Love, You are with us in every transition and change. As we enter into this new era with excitement and even some anxiety,<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We thank you for the work of others that gives breadth and depth<\/mark><\/strong> to our own work. Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another.<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr Laurence Gallagher CSsR<\/mark><\/strong> will be our guest preacher at Masses on the weekend of 27\/28 May (Pentecost Sunday), helping us to reflect on the gift of the Holy Spirit and how we can begin to renew our Parish community in these changing times. We look forward to welcoming him back to St Agnes\u2019<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meditating with Mary in May<\/strong>\u00a0<\/mark>is a 3-session programme allowing people to pray with art and sacred scripture and to reflect on the life of Our Lady. It has been delivered in several parishes in the Diocese to date with very positive feedback. The programme will run in St Agnes\u2019 Church\u00a0 starting on\u00a0 <\/mark>Wednesday 17th<\/sup>\u00a0May @ 7pm, Thursday 25 May@ 7pm and Wednesday 31 May @ 7pm<\/mark> Each session will be led by a facilitator and involve some scripture sharing, followed by tea\/coffee and light refreshments. Everyone is welcome.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parish Planning:<\/mark> As we seek to build up our Parish community we welcome suggestions from parishioners about areas for development or initiatives we might consider. If you have any ideas or would like to help with certain aspects of Parish outreach we would love to hear from you. Please use the suggestion box in the Church and any feedback will be gratefully received. Suggestion slips are available outside the Sacristy. Please post completed slips into box located right hand side of Mary\u2019s Statue.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUNFLOWER SUNDAY<\/mark><\/strong> <\/strong><\/mark>Small Sunflower plants will be available at the 9.30am Mass next Sunday, 21st May.  For over 20 years we have distributed these plants, all of which originated from a single flower given out at Children’s Liturgy in 2002.  The Parish continues this tradition as a symbol of “Passing on the Faith”.  Please keep us informed of how your plant grows and maybe send  photographs to the Parish Office  email address. The documentary charts a meeting of four individuals from across the globe, invited by Pope Francis to Rome to tell their very personal stories \u2013 from India, Senegal, Hawaii and the Brazilian Amazon. It poses very urgent and pertinent questions for each one of us, especially as we emerge from the Covid Pandemic, as to how we wish to live our lives knowing that our actions impact upon others often in far corners of the earth. This is the start of a global conversation based on the messages contained within the encyclical letter \u201cLaudato Si\u2019\u2019. The screening lasts 40 minutes.
