DONATE BUTTON<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Many parishioners are asking\u00a0 about donating and what they can\/should do about their weekly and monthly envelopes. Our suggestion to you is to do one of a few things:
\nUsing the donate button on our home page, you can use your bank debit or credit card to donate straight to us. Alternatively, you can continue to put your contributions into envelopes and\u00a0 save them all until we are opened again and we can receive them all in the weekly plate. Lastly, you can simply donate one larger amount to us when we are all back to normal.
\nUnfortunately, direct debit\/standing order isn\u2019t possible at this time as staff cannot liaise with you with the proper forms and the detail you need as our staff are furlough workers until 31st May 2020.<\/p>\n

In recognition of the dedicated service of all involved in providing essential services during these challenging times, singers and musicians in churches on the island of Ireland are being invited to take part in a unique singing, musical and blessing experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

At a local level participants are asked to select a facility which provides an essential service and to dedicate their rendition of the specially adapted hymn: \u201cBe Thou my Vision\u201d.<\/div>\n

Project joint coordinator, Fr Martin Magill, Parish Priest, St John the Evangelist, Belfast said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe words of the hymn \u2018Be Thou My Vision\u2019 can be traced back to fifth to ninth century Christian Ireland to a tradition of a prayer for protection known as \u2018lorica\u2019 (Latin for armour or breastplate.) The references in the prayer to armour and sword are thought to be inspired by some of the imagery in St Paul\u2019s Letter to the Ephesians 6:16-17 such as \u2018shield of faith\u2019,\u00a0\u2018helmet of salvation\u2019\u00a0and \u2018the sword of the Spirit\u2019.\u00a0 Praying for protection and blessing is particularly apt during these times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fellow organiser, Philip McKinley, Dublin-based Church of Ireland ordinand said:<\/p>\n

\u201cGod blesses us abundantly and is present with us, even in very difficult times. This song is an invitation to lift our eyes, to shift our vision far beyond ourselves, to Him. Ireland is famous for its blessings, words to encourage friends, family and neighbours along the journey. We want to bless those on the frontlines with words of hope and life and relationship with the creator of all things.<\/p>\n

This is an exciting collaborative video project designed to bless our community and encourage people to lift their vision to the Lord. In the words of the hymn we want to draw people into a greater awareness of \u2018thy presence, my light\u2019 in these dark and challenging times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once signed up you will be notified this Saturday 16th May to download our Recording Guide resources from\u00a0www.theirishblessing.com<\/a>. All the information you will need to record your contribution will be made available there.<\/p>\n

Once recordings are completed, please return to the website to submit these where they will be considered for inclusion in an all-island version of the hymn.<\/p>\n

The deadline for recorded submissions is 12 noon on Friday 22nd May.<\/b><\/p>\n

This final collaborative video will be directed and edited by a renowned team including Greg Fromholz, Stu Reid and Jonny Rea. God of the indoors, who knew the confines of domestic space at a time of little comfort, help us in this time of confinement, help us to see it as an act of love, in solidarity with those who care for us and put their own lives on the line for the sake of others. Help us to \u2018make room\u2019 for each other, even if room is scarce, help us to find reserves of patience we never knew we had, to take offence less easily, to find in our hearts an easy apology when we\u2019re petulant.
