WHAT’S ON…

MISSIO IRELAND The month of October is traditionally dedicated to the theme of Mission. Mission Sunday will take place next  Sunday 19th October. October and World Mission Sunday is a time for the faithful of the world to show their appreciation towards the work of overseas missionaries.  In his homily at the Mass for the beginning of his pontificate (18th May 2025), Pope Leo XIV spoke about Mission.

“Our world, wounded by war, violence and injustice, needs to hear the Gospel mes-sage of God’s love, and to experience the reconciling power of God’s grace. In this sense, the Church itself, in all her members, is increasingly called to be a ‘missionary Church that opens its arms to the world, proclaims the word

PRAYERS FOR THE PRE-SYNODAL ASSEMBLY OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN IRELAND. All Catholics are invited to pray for this special gathering that will take place in Kilkenny on 18th October. PRISONS WEEK  Sunday 12th Oct– Sunday 18th Oct. During this Prisons week, I warmly invite all the faithful across our Diocese to join in prayer for the Prison Parishes of Hydebank, Maghaberry, and Magilligan. These communities, though behind walls, are very much part of our Church family. On Thursday Oct 16th, I will visit Hydebank Womans Prison and young Offenders College to spend time in prayer with the residents and staff. It is my hope that through our shared prayer, we may bring light, hope and the healing presence of Christ to those who carry heavy burdens. Let us remember  that no one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy, and that in this Jubilee Year of Hope, we are called to be instruments of compassion and reconciliation.  Bishop Alan Mc Guckian SJ

THE PRISONS WEEK PRAYER

Lord, you offer freedom to all people.  We pray for those in prison.

Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist. Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care.

Heal those who have been wounded by the actions of others,

especially the victims of crime. Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in his strength and in his Spirit, now and every day.

Amen

PRAYER FOR THE MISSIONS

God, who would have all His children to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, send forth, we beseech you, laborers into your harvest and grant them with all confidence to preach the Word; that everywhere your Gospel may be heard and glorified, and that all nations may know you, the one True God, and Him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.

 Amen.
