WHAT’S ON

Day of Prayer for Victims and Survivors of Abuse February 24th 2023 Pope Francis has invited Bishops around the world to establish a special day of prayer in the Church year to support the journey of human and spiritual recovery. This occasion will be marked at the weekend masses on the 25th and 26th February 2023. In Down and Connor a special Mass will be celebrated on FRIDAY 24TH February 2023 in Saint Patrick’s Church Donegall Street at 1:00pm to pray for and remember victims and survivors of abuse within our Church. At this mass the Candle of Atonement will be lit. You are invited to attend this important Diocesan event.

Syria Earthquake Appeal

We invite you to join us in prayer for those affected by the two devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and for the success of emergency response efforts. Mary’s Meals has provided school meals in Syria since 2017 with our local partner Dorcas, and we have now launched an emergency appeal to provide urgent support for children and vulnerable adults in and around Aleppo who are in desperate need. To find out more or donate, please visit www.marysmeals.org.uk or call us for free on 0800 6981212.

Temperance Sunday Mass on RTÉ TV & Radio at 11am will include prayers for all who are in treatment for addiction, for their families and for those who are in recovery. The website www.pioneers.ie carries information for parishioners who wish to take the Lenten pledge.

Accord NI Catholic Marriage Care Service is recruiting Marriage Education Facilitators to provide Sacramental Marriage Preparation for couples in your diocese. We are seeking individuals who are good communicators and have an enthusiasm for supporting couples as they prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage and future family life. This is an opportunity to formally train within a supportive, nurturing and inspiring community. In 2022, our teams helped 2,140 couples to develop good communication skills, manage conflict and understand the responsibility and significance of the Sacrament of Marriage. For further details and an application form, please contact Brenda at 028 9023 3002 or email info@accordni.com.

LENTEN PIONEER PLEDGE Many people choose to abstain from alcohol during Lent. Why not take this opportunity to perhaps help yourself or someone you know with an alcohol or drug problem by offering your sacrifice for freedom from addiction? Please consider taking the short-term Lenten Pledge and make a difference to someone’s life. Register your pledge with local Pioneers and say the daily prayer. PRAYER: “I promise in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and with the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary to abstain from all alcoholic drink during Lent.”
