Conscience: a guide to living and acting in a secular society? A presentation in St. Brigid’s Parish Centre, Derryvolgie Avenue Belfast. Tuesday 17th June 2014 at 7.30pm. Fr Edward O’Donnell, Mr Brett Lockhart, Fr Timothy Bartlett Conscience — what is my conscience?  It is that guide of life implanted in my nature; that innate moral sense written into the very fabric of my humanity, touching upon the fundamental issues of life and death, truth and justice.  It is that inner sacred sanctuary where I am alone with God, whose gentle voice, sounding in my heart, moves me to do good under any circumstances and to avoid evil by all means.  Conscience informs me that, before God, this is good, true and right, that is bad, false and wrong.  It lifts me beyond mere opinion, and beyond the pragmatic, for when I listen to my conscience I hear God speaking; but when I deny my conscience, I not only turn away from God, but I deny my very self, my own humanity. Everyone welcome.
