In Syria over 100,000 people have lost their lives after two years of war and over 8.4m people — approximately half of whom are children – are in need of humanitarian assistance. This crisis is unfolding in an area of great historical and religious significance for Christians worldwide. The situation faced by the people of Syria is a critical one with the country facing the worst humanitarian crisis in a generation. Trócaire is working in partnership with local church agencies in Syria and along neighbouring borders to support survivors. Since 2011, vital emergency aid has reached over 273,000 people. A collection to support the people of Syria will be taken up at all Masses next weekend 16th & 17th November. Your support will help to get food, water, clothing, shelter, medical and psycho-social supports to those most in need.

St Agnes’ SPRED

Thirty two years ago Sr Consilia, the Parish Sister, introduced the SPRED (Special Religious Development) method to St Agnes’. SPRED’s  mission is to form small communities of faith in parishes to welcome children and adults with learning disabilities; to provide an appropriate method of catechesis; and to foster full inclusion in assemblies of worship.

The group shares the faith through symbols. Each evening activity is a journey in the faith. It begins with an activity to relax the mind from everyday stresses so as to be open to receive the message from God. We then go to the Celebration Corner where we listen to the Word of God. Each session ends with an agape moment, a cup of tea and a chat.

Three groups exist in the parish, one meets on a Tuesday night and two on a Wednesday night, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm  in the Parish Centre. We would welcome new friends to join us.

This weekend we are having our Annual Church Door Collection. This covers our costs as we use Disability Action Buses to collect our friends. We appreciate your help today and over the past years.

If interested in assisting in any way, please contact Esther Glass (90614711) about Tuesday evenings, or Sally O’Brien (90615232) or Eileen Lavery (90611248) about Wednesday evenings.
