VOCATION SUNDAY As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life or to live as generous single people. Today Sunday 8th May 2022 is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” The Lord asked his disciples to “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord’s call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. Pray also for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister. Gospel John 10:27-30 Jesus said: ‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.’ PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Heavenly Father, we ask you to send labourers into your harvest and to bless all who strive to listen to your voice. Inspire, in the hearts of men and women, vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. Bless our families with a spirit of generosity, so that those whom you call have the courage to give themselves to your Church in faith. Send workers into Your great harvest so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with love, the suffering are comforted, and Your people are strengthened by the sacraments. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Obligation to attend Sunday/Holyday Mass With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, it is encouraging to see a return to a fuller liturgical life in our parishes. Thankful that we can once again gather as communities of faith, the Irish Bishops have announced that attending Mass on Sunday and Holydays of Obligation will from Easter Sunday (17th April 2022) once again be deemed an essential expression of faith. As always, those whose health is vulnerable or who are unwell will not be under any obligation to attend Mass.
