Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Coronavirus Emergency As highlighted in the Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary and stated by the Holy Father in his Homily of 20 March 2020, it is vitally important that the faithful know that if they cannot access confession, then, by making an act of sorrow, by being truly contrite for all their sins with the intention not to sin anymore, and with the intention of going to confession as soon as is possible, they are reconciled with God and obtain the forgiveness of their sins, even mortal sins. Bishop Noel Treanor

Marriages We are aware that couples who have been forced to postpone their wedding are attempting to reschedule them later in the year. In some cases, reception venues are offering Sundays. While it remains the general practice that weddings are not celebrated on Sundays in the Diocese, in these particular circumstances and only for those attempting to reschedule a wedding, a Sunday wedding will be permitted, where it is possible for a parish to offer this.

POPE FRANCIS NEWS.. Holy Week, which is the culmination of the 40-day Lenten period, is the most solemn period for Christians worldwide, who celebrate the solemn mysteries of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. This year the liturgical celebrations of Pope Francis from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday will take place in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, without the presence of the faithful. The Stations of the Cross will take place in front of the Basilica.
Pope Francis will celebrate all of the Holy Week Rites in St. Peter’s Basilica, starting with Palm Sunday at 11.00am, 5 April.
As for the Triduum, or the 3 days preceding Easter, the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 6:00pm on 9 April.
The following day, Good Friday, Pope Francis will preside over the celebration of the Lord’s Passion. However, that night, the Stations of the Cross will not be held at the traditional site of the Colosseum, but in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican at 9:00 pm.
Likewise, the Easter Vigil Mass will be held in the Vatican Basilica at 9:00 pm on 11 April. The following day, the Holy Father will celebrate Easter Sunday Mass in the basilica and conclude with the “Urbi et Orbi” message and blessing.

DIRECTIVES FOR THE DIOCESE OF DOWN AND CONNOR Effective Thursday 26 March 2020
Funerals Until further notice there will be no Funeral Services in the Church. Funeral Services will be restricted to a Service of Committal at the graveside, we recognise that this will be a difficult change for grieving families. Bishop Noel has addressed this in his Pastoral letter which you can view on the parish website homepage. Aware of growing public anxiety, out of particular concern for the more vulnerable members of our community and to avoid any confusion, we are updating our directives. Churches are to remain closed until further notice. Parishes will do all they can to raise awareness of available opportunities to participate in Mass via radio, TV, and web streaming. Information will be shared on the Diocesan website (www.downandconnor.org) and through parish social media.
Weddings Weddings have been suspended until further notice.
Baptisms Baptisms have been suspended until further notice.
The celebrations of Confirmation, First Confession and First Holy Communion are suspended until further notice. Meetings, seminars, courses and retreats all non-essential meetings, courses, seminars and other pastoral gatherings are cancelled. Where meetings are required, consideration will be given to using conference calls or web-based meetings. These directives will be kept under regular review and any change will be notified as soon as possible
